UN Honors Pakistani Peacekeepers for Protecting South Sudanese from Floods

Islamabad, The United Nations has recognized Pakistani peacekeepers for their exceptional efforts in safeguarding approximately 300,000 people in Bentiu, South Sudan, from severe flooding. The peacekeepers, part of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), received honorary awards for their work in constructing and maintaining flood barriers that protected a vast area of land and the local displaced persons camp from inundation.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Pakistani unit’s diligent efforts involved building dikes over a significant area, effectively preventing 5,600 square kilometers of floodwaters from reaching the Bentiu camp. As their mission concludes, the unit was commended with a citation for outstanding performance, and 23 members received the prestigious Force Commander Commendation Card for their service.
