Karachi: The United Nations has acknowledged a shift towards improved relations between Pakistan and India following their agreement to cease hostilities, expressing hope that the truce will lead to addressing unresolved issues between the two nations.
The statement, reported by the Kashmir Media Service, follows the May 10 agreement between the neighboring countries to halt military actions after a period of cross-border drone and missile exchanges. This development has garnered positive attention from the international community, including the UN.
Stéphane Dujarric, spokesperson for UN Secretary-General António Guterres, spoke at a press briefing in New York, noting that the ceasefire is holding and indicating a shift to a “better place” than before.
Dujarric further conveyed optimism that the cessation of hostilities would create an opportunity for further engagement between India and Pakistan. “We hope that the ceasefire will continue to hold, and we hope that the parties will use this to deal with a lot of the outstanding issues between them,” he stated.
