Geneva, The UN ad hoc Conciliation Commission, formed to address issues related to the Israel-Palestine conflict, today urged both Israel and the State of Palestine to avoid actions that threaten civilian lives and security in the Gaza Strip, the Occupied Palestinian Territory including East Jerusalem, and the State of Israel. This call comes amid escalating violence and hostilities in the region since October 7.
According to Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, the Commission, established by the UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination on November 30, 2021, under the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination, condemned all forms of violence targeting civilians in the conflict.
The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to its mandate, promising to offer its good offices to both the Israeli and Palestinian governments. This effort aims to achieve an amicable solution based on respect for the Convention. Additionally, it has invited both governments to prioritize the use of its services, indicating their availability at any time.
This development marks a significant step by the UN in addressing the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine, emphasizing the need for respect for human rights and the security of civilians caught in the crossfire.
