UN Committee to Review Pakistan’s Racial Discrimination Policies in Geneva

Geneva: The UN Committee on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination (CERD) is scheduled to assess Pakistan’s adherence to the Convention on the Elimination of Racial Discrimination during its 113th session this week. The review will involve a detailed examination of the country’s legislative efforts and practices against racial discrimination.

According to Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, the committee’s discussions with the Pakistani delegation will be held on 8 August from 15:00 to 18:00 and on 9 August from 10:00 to 13:00, Geneva time. The dialogues will be publicly broadcast on UN Web TV. Topics of discussion will include legislation against racial discrimination, discrimination based on color, ethnicity, and caste, and issues affecting non-citizens, particularly Afghan refugees.
