UN Chief Calls for Restraint Between India and Pakistan Amid Rising Tensions

New York: UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has issued a call for restraint to India and Pakistan, urging both nations to avoid escalating a military confrontation that could spiral out of control. His remarks come in response to heightened tensions following a terror attack in Pahalgam.

Addressing the media in New York, Guterres acknowledged the intense emotions generated by the incident but stressed the importance of bringing those responsible to justice through credible legal processes. He underscored that the current tensions between the two nuclear-armed neighbors are at their highest in years.

The UN Secretary General emphasized that military solutions are not viable and proposed offering his good offices to facilitate peace between the two countries. He reiterated the United Nations’ readiness to support any efforts aimed at de-escalation, diplomacy, and a renewed commitment to peace.

Guterres also noted the significant contributions both India and Pakistan have made to the United Nations, expressing his concern over the deteriorating relations between the countries. He appealed to both sides to step back from the brink of war for the sake of regional stability and global peace.
