ULFA and NSCN Designate India’s Independence Day as ‘Black Day’

Guwahati: The United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) and the National Socialist Council of Nagaland (NSCN) have declared they will observe August 15, the day India celebrates its independence, as a ‘Black Day.’

According to Kashmir Media Service, the Myanmar-based NSCN-K Yung Aung faction and ULFA (I) in a joint statement announced a total shutdown in the Wesean region on Indian Independence Day. They have called for a boycott, urging the residents to support by staying indoors and rejecting any celebration activities. The groups have criticized the celebration of Indian Independence Day in the region as a perpetuation of “colonialist symbol” and accused India of using the occasion to deceive the international community about the real conditions in the region.

The statement went on to denounce the Indian government’s policies in the region as a facade of normalcy, hiding brutal military oppression and severe human rights abuses. The insurgents’ call reflects ongoing tensions and the complex geopolitical struggles within the region, marking the day not as one of celebration but as a reminder of their grievances and resistance against Indian rule.
