UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak Removes Suella Braverman from Cabinet

London, UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has dismissed Home Secretary Suella Braverman from the cabinet, following her controversial comments accusing the London Police of showing pro-Palestine bias. This move marks a significant development in the UK’s political landscape.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Braverman’s removal came in the wake of an article she wrote, wherein she criticized the London Police for alleged favoritism towards pro-Palestinian demonstrators and accused them of “double standards”. The article sparked tensions, especially in light of a recent clash between a pro-Palestinian demonstration and a far-right counter-protest.

Suella Braverman, a prominent Conservative leader and lawyer, has been a Member of Parliament since 2015. She served as the attorney general for England and Wales from 2020 to 2022, and her tenure as Home Secretary since last year was often marked by criticism for her strong views on immigration and so-called “anti-woke” rhetoric.

In response to her dismissal, 43-year-old Braverman stated that serving as Home Secretary was the “greatest privilege” of her life and hinted at future comments on the matter. Her position has been filled by James Cleverly.

Braverman’s contentious article in The Times of London criticized the London Police for allegedly being more lenient towards pro-Palestinian and Black Lives Matter protestors compared to right-wing protestors. She also referred to pro-Gaza ceasefire demonstrators as “hate marchers.” Notably, her article was not pre-approved by the Prime Minister’s office, as is customarily required.

The Labour Party has criticized Braverman’s remarks, stating they have exacerbated existing tensions. This incident reflects ongoing debates over free speech, political discourse, and law enforcement’s role in the UK.
