Islamabad: A significant agreement to enhance cooperation on climate change and environmental issues was reached between the Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination and the United Kingdom. This development occurred during a strategic meeting hosted by Romina Khurshid Alam, Coordinator to the Prime Minister on Climate Change, with a delegation from the UK Embassy led by Development Director Jo Moire.
According to Press Information Department, the collaboration intends to tackle critical challenges posed by climate change and environmental degradation. The discussions emphasized the necessity of a united effort between the two nations, engaging civil society, academia, and the corporate sectors to advance sustainable solutions. Khurshid Alam highlighted the urgent need for actions that mitigate the impacts of global warming, address flood risks proactively, and support vulnerable communities, particularly in agriculture.
The meeting also addressed the economic losses Pakistan has suffered due to climate-related disasters, which have had a profound impact on agricultural productivity and food security. The UK delegation presented a report outlining strategies to bolster Pakistan’s climate resilience, focusing on sustainable agricultural practices and long-term mitigation of environmental impacts.
