New Delhi: The Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act Tribunal has upheld the Indian government’s decision to impose a five-year ban on Sikhs for Justice, a pro-Khalistan group led by Gurpatwant Singh Pannun. The tribunal’s decision confirms the ban initially imposed by India’s Ministry of Home Affairs in July 2024.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the tribunal, overseen by Delhi High Court Judge Justice Anoop Kumar Mendiratta, was tasked with reviewing the validity of the ban. The Ministry of Home Affairs had extended the ban under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967, citing the group’s involvement in activities deemed “anti-India and subversive,” which threaten the nation’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
This decision follows a similar ban imposed on Sikhs for Justice by the Ministry in 2019, reflecting ongoing concerns regarding the group’s activities.
