U.S. Treasury Delegation Discusses Energy Sector Collaboration with Pakistan’s Power Minister


Islamabad, In a significant meeting with a delegation from the U.S. Department of Treasury, Pakistan’s Minister for Power Sardar Awais Leghari outlined plans for extensive reforms in the country’s energy sector, aiming to enhance service quality and foster private sector involvement.



According to Press Information Department, the U.S. delegation, led by Assistant Secretary Brent Neiman, engaged with Minister Leghari to discuss potential collaborations that could assist Pakistan in overcoming its power sector challenges. The talks focused on reform strategies aimed at improving Pakistan’s energy mix and addressing other sectoral deficiencies.



Minister Leghari shared details about initiatives to increase private participation in the distribution and transmission of electricity, which are part of broader efforts to elevate the service quality delivered to Pakistani citizens. He also introduced a fan replacement program designed to save energy and manage seasonal variations in energy demand more effectively.



Highlighting the need for international support, Leghari emphasized the critical role of U.S. technical assistance and favorable financing conditions in bridging the seasonal generation and demand gap in Pakistan’s power sector. Assistant Secretary Neiman expressed appreciation for Pakistan’s reform efforts and assured continued U.S. cooperation to help resolve the ongoing issues in the power sector.
