U.S. Deputy Chief of Mission Spotlights Agricultural Collaboration in Pakistan Under “Green Alliance” Initiative

Multan: During his inaugural visit to South Punjab from July 29-31, U.S. Deputy Chief of Mission Andrew Schofer emphasized the significant contributions of U.S. businesses to Pakistan’s agricultural sector, particularly the mango industry, which plays a pivotal role in the nation’s economy and cultural heritage.

According to Embassy of the United States of America, DCM Schofer toured the Luftabad mango farm on July 31, where he discussed how U.S. support has enhanced the industry by providing advanced grading technology that reduces labor costs and accelerates shipping processes. This assistance is part of a broader effort under the U.S.-Pakistan “Green Alliance” Framework, aimed at bolstering climate-smart agricultural practices, clean energy, and effective water management across Pakistan.

Schofer’s visit also included a stop at the Corteva Agriscience Research facility, highlighting the ongoing cooperation between the two nations. He noted the significant impact of a 2015-2019 USAID project that not only improved the competitiveness of Pakistan’s agriculture and livestock sectors but also spurred private sector investment and job creation. The project helped draw $80 million in investments, generating over 12,000 full-time jobs.
