U.S. Delegation in India to Probe Assassination Plot Against Sikh Leader

Washington, The United States has intensified its diplomatic engagement with India following allegations of a plot to assassinate Sikh leader Gurpatwant Singh Pannun on American soil. Jon Finer, U.S. Deputy National Security Adviser, led a delegation to New Delhi to oversee the formation of an investigative panel on this matter.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the White House released a statement acknowledging India’s establishment of a Committee of Inquiry. The committee is tasked with investigating the alleged assassination plot in the United States and ensuring accountability for anyone found responsible. This follows recent allegations by the U.S. Justice Department that an Indian government official was involved in directing an unsuccessful attempt to murder Pannun, a prominent Sikh Khalistan leader and dual citizen of the United States and Canada.

In response to these allegations, India has expressed its concern, especially regarding the involvement of one of its government officials. The Indian government has distanced itself from the plot, stating that such actions are contrary to its policies. India has committed to formally investigating the U.S. concerns and promised to take necessary follow-up actions based on the findings of a panel established on November 18.

This incident comes amidst broader concerns, as Canada reported “credible” allegations two months ago about Indian agents being linked to the murder of another Sikh separatist leader, Hardeep Singh Nijjar, in a Vancouver suburb. India has denied these allegations.
