U.S. and LUMS Collaborate to Open Electric Vehicle R and D Center in Lahore


Lahore, In a significant step towards sustainable transportation, the United States government and the Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS) have inaugurated a new e-Mobility Research and Development Center in Lahore. This joint initiative is aimed at accelerating the adoption of electric vehicles in Pakistan.



According to Embassy of The United States of America, the center, located at the Syed Babar Ali School of Science and Engineering on LUMS’ Lahore campus, focuses on developing locally designed electric vehicles, battery solutions, and associated electronics. This effort aligns with the broader goal of enhancing technical standards in the field of electric mobility in Pakistan.



U.S. Consul General in Lahore, Kristin Hawkins, remarked on the longstanding partnership between the U.S. and LUMS, highlighting the new research center as a continuation of this collaborative history. She emphasized the significance of the institution in addressing modern challenges and opportunities through innovative research and education.



The inauguration of the center is a part of the larger U.S.-Pakistan “Green Alliance” framework, which aims to tackle environmental issues and promote sustainable development. The event saw participation from representatives of LUMS, the electric vehicle (EV) and battery manufacturing industry, and USAID’s Power Sector Improvement Activity.



LUMS Provost Dr. Tariq Jadoon expressed gratitude for the U.S. government’s support in advancing Pakistan’s energy sector and establishing a foundation for sustainable and inclusive growth in the country, particularly in partnership with the private sector.
