U.S. Ambassador Engages with Punjab Leaders to Boost Health, IT, and Cultural Ties

Lahore, U.S. Ambassador Donald Blome visited Lahore from May 1 to May 3, engaging with key Punjab officials to discuss and enhance the U.S.-Pakistan partnership in various sectors including health, information technology, and culture. Joined by U.S. Consul General in Lahore Kristin Hawkins, Ambassador Blome’s visit included meetings with new and incumbent provincial leaders as well as visits to local projects supported by the United States.

According to Embassy of the United States of America, during his visit, Ambassador Blome met with Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Acting Governor Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan, and other political leaders to discuss ways to strengthen trade and investment. These discussions also covered the U.S.-Pakistan “Green Alliance” initiatives and explored further opportunities for cooperation.

Ambassador Blome toured Systems Limited and Remington Pharmaceuticals, where he highlighted the significant U.S. contributions towards combating malnutrition in Pakistan, including a substantial funding initiative aimed at treating severely malnourished children. He expressed appreciation for the ongoing collaborative efforts in the health sector between Pakistani companies and their U.S. partners.

Further cultural ties were reinforced during his visit to Forman Christian College, where he inspected a women’s dormitory built with USAID funds and an EducationUSA office offering free advising on U.S. study opportunities. The Ambassador also attended a concert by American band Raining Jane at Lahore Fort, emphasizing their role in promoting music and leadership among girls through initiatives like the Rock n’ Roll Camp for Girls in Los Angeles.
