Two Village Defence Force Personnel Found Dead in Manipur

Imphal, In a grim development in the violence-afflicted state of Manipur, India, two personnel from the Indian army’s village defence force (VDF) have been found dead under distressing circumstances. This incident has cast a spotlight on the ongoing unrest in the region, underscoring the volatile security situation.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the first victim, identified as Ningthoujam Manisana, aged 35, was discovered in a hill ravine in the Imphal East district. Manisana, who volunteered with the VDF at Sangaithel village, was reported missing by his family on February 7. The police report detailed that Manisana’s body bore bullet wounds and marks of brutal torture, including a sharp object piercing his neck. He leaves behind a wife and a young son, highlighting the personal tragedies emerging from the broader conflict.

In a separate but equally tragic incident, the body of N. Oken, aged 26, another VDF volunteer, was found inside a utility vehicle parked within the premises of the JN Institute of Medical Sciences in Imphal. The discovery of these bodies has prompted a heightened response from Indian troops and police personnel, who have initiated search operations across vulnerable areas in the state. Despite these efforts, there have been no reports of arrests related to these deaths.

These incidents reflect the ongoing challenges faced by security forces and civilians in Manipur, where the escalation of violence has led to loss of life and heightened fear among the population. The authorities are under pressure to restore peace and order and to ensure the safety of those serving on the front lines of the conflict.
