Two Students Killed, 22 Injured in Kupwara Bus Accident


Srinagar: Two girl students lost their lives and 22 others were injured in a bus accident in Kupwara district of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir. The accident took place near Vodpora in the Handwara area, when a college bus carrying students on a picnic overturned after losing control.



Local residents promptly arrived at the scene to conduct a rescue operation. Medical Superintendent of District Hospital Handwara, Dr. Ajaz Ahmad Bhat, stated that one girl was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital, while 23 others were admitted with injuries. Two of the injured were in critical condition and transferred to a hospital in Srinagar for further treatment.



Officials later confirmed that one of the critically injured students succumbed to her injuries, bringing the death toll to two.



In a separate incident, at least eight nomadic family members were injured, and approximately 20 sheep and goats perished in the Chenani-Nashri tunnel accident along the Srinagar-Jammu Highway. The accident occurred when a truck transporting the nomadic family collided with another vehicle inside the tunnel. The injured were taken to Chenani hospital for treatment, according to an official.
