Two Residents of Bandipora Detained Under Public Safety Act in Kashmir

Srinagar, Two individuals from the Bandipora district in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir have been arrested and booked under the controversial Public Safety Act (PSA), as reported by the local police today.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the individuals, identified as Danish Parvaiz and Abrar Ahmad Wani from the Sumlar area, have been accused of engaging in activities against the state. The Indian police allege that the actions of the two men justified the use of the PSA, a law often criticized for its stringent provisions and potential for abuse.

Following their arrest, Parvaiz and Wani were transported to the Central Jail Kot Bhalwal Jammu. The PSA allows for detention without formal charge or trial for extended periods, raising concerns among human rights advocates regarding due process and the treatment of detainees.

The use of the PSA in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir has been a point of contention, with international observers and local civil society groups calling for the repeal of the law due to its harsh application and the implications for civil liberties.
