Two Killed and Nine Injured in Manipur Gunfight


Imphal: In a violent outbreak in Manipur’s Imphal West district, two individuals lost their lives and nine others were injured. The incident occurred near Koutuk in the Kangchup region when a gunfight erupted, involving the use of firearms and explosives.



According to Kashmir Media Service, the conflict began when the Kukis fired indiscriminately from elevated positions towards the lower areas of Koutruk and the neighboring Kadangband. Manipur police reported that the attack resulted in the death of two individuals, including a woman named Ngangbam Surbala Devi, aged 31. Her body was transported to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences for a post-mortem examination. The identity of the second deceased individual remains unconfirmed.



The hospital authorities indicated that among the injured, five people suffered from bullet wounds, while four others were affected by splinter injuries from a bomb explosion. The unexpected attack led to a state of panic among the villagers, compelling numerous residents, including women, children, and the elderly, to evacuate to safer locations.



In response to the violence, both state and central security forces have been mobilized to the area to restore order. Furthermore, the state government has issued a strong condemnation of the attack, emphasizing their commitment to securing peace and safety for its citizens.
