Patna, December 14, 2021 (PPI-OT): Two Dalit men were beaten up and forced to lick spit from the ground for not voting in favour of a candidate in a local election, in Aurangabad district of the Indian state of Bihar. According to Kashmir Media Service, a candidate in the election for the village head, Balwant Singh, made the two Dalit men identified as Anil Kumar and Manjeet Kumar do sit-ups also besides forcing them to lick spit from the ground, Indian media reported.
A video of the incident has been shared widely on social media. The video purportedly showed the accused Balwant Singh accusing the victims of drinking the liquor he provided them before the elections but not voting for him. He is also seen abusing the victims, employing caste slurs.
Balwant Singh contested election for the post of “Mukhiya” in Dumri Panchayat. On losing the election, he abused the two men for not casting their vote in his favour. Shiv Kumar Rao, the additional superintendent of police in charge of Aurangabad sub-division, told media that the police were examining the veracity of the video.
