Srinagar, In the disputed region of Jammu and Kashmir, Indian police have arrested two individuals for allegedly making remarks regarding the demolition of Babri Masjid and the subsequent construction of the Ram temple at the site. The arrests are part of a broader police action that has implicated six people across various districts in the region.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the arrests and cases have been registered in the districts of Reasi, Ramban, Rajouri, and Kathua in the Jammu region. Among those arrested is Zaffar Hussain, a resident of the Khanna Chargal area of Jammu district. A report from The Telegraph also indicated that a female college student has been implicated in these cases, although she has not been arrested yet.
Family members of the arrested individuals have revealed that both Zaffar Hussain and his cousin, the female student, posted comments online expressing their discontent with the demolition of Babri Masjid and the construction of a temple in its place. “They were upset about the demolition of the Babri Masjid and the construction of a temple in its place,” stated a relative of the girl.
Several other youths have reportedly been taken in for questioning in connection with the case. Efforts are being made by the families of those implicated to secure their release, with bail applications filed in court.
The incident highlights the continuing tensions and sensitivities around the Babri Masjid site, a matter of historical and religious contention in India, especially in the context of Jammu and Kashmir, a region marked by longstanding disputes and political unrest.
