Tweet on ex-RSS chief Golwalkar, former MP CM Digvijaya Singh faces FIR

Bhopal, July 09, 2023 (PPI-OT): An FIR has been filed against Congress leader Digvijaya Singh in Indore city of the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh over his social media post on former chief of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), MS Golwalkar. In the FIR filed in Indore’s Tukoganj Police Station, the Congress leader has been booked under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

Digvijay Singh, the former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, tweeted a poster along with a caption “Do know what Guru Golwalkar ji’s thoughts were for the Dalits, backwards and Muslims and on the right on national water, forest and land.” In the tweet, Golwalkar was quoted as saying that he would rather live under British rule than have equal rights given to Dalits, backwards and Muslims.

Indian media reported that the FIR has been filed by an advocate in Madhya Pradesh High Court Rajesh Joshi, claiming that Singh has made the remarks against Golwalkar ‘deliberately’ to harm social harmony. “The sentiments of the RSS workers and Hindus have been hurt by his remark,” the FIR read.

It is to mention here that recently, a BJP worker was arrested for urinating on a tribal labourer in Madhya Pradesh. Days after the incident, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan met the tribal man and washed his feet at CM House in Bhopal. In a viral video from Sidhi town of the state, the BJP worker Pravesh Shukla was seen urinating on Rawat. “…I was pained to see that video. I apologise to you. People are like a God to me,” Chouhan tells Rawat, as quoted by the Indian media. Shivraj Singh Chouhan also visited Smart City Park in Bhopal along with victim Dashmat Rawat and planted saplings.
