Turkish MP Dogan Bekin for Kashmir settlement under UN resolutions

Ankara, August 12, 2023 (PPI-OT):Refah Party Istanbul Deputy, Dogan Bekin, has called for the settlement of the Kashmir dispute through holding of plebiscite in Jammu and Kashmir as per the UN resolutions to allow the Kashmiri people to determine their future by themselves. According to Kashmir Media Service, Dogan Bekin was addressing a press conference at the Press Hall of the Turkish Assembly alongside a Kashmiri delegation. The delegation included eminent figures from both sides of the Line of Control such as Speaker of the AJK Assembly, Chaudhry Lateef Akbar; Convener of All Parties Hurriyat Conference AJK chapter, Mehmood Ahmed Saghar; Altaf Ahmed Butt, Abdur Rasheed Turabi, and Dr Mubeen Shah.

Dogan Bekin pointed out that on August 05, 2019, Indian government repealed Articles 370 and 35A which guaranteed special status and rights to Jammu and Kashmir and its residents, leading to far-reaching consequences for the local population. He emphasized the need for the demilitarization of IIOJK that has long been under military blockade by India. Bekin expressed profound concern over Modi regime’s attempts to alter the demographic composition of IIOJK and establish Hindu supremacy. He drew parallels between the methods utilized by India in occupied Kashmir and those applied by Israel in areas like East Jerusalem, West Bank, and Gaza in Palestine.

He called for the immediate removal of Indian military from the occupied territory, urging the international community, particularly the UN, to take effective action. Bekin reiterated that the freedom of Muslims in IIOJK is under threat. He called upon Turkiye to take a leading role in safeguarding the rights and aspirations of the Kashmiri Muslims. He stressed the urgency of taking swift action and establishing parliamentary mechanisms to address the issue effectively.
