Turkey, Azerbaijan, and Pakistan Strengthen Trilateral Ties at Astana Summit

Astana: Presidents Recep Tayyip Erdogan of Turkey and Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan, along with Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif of Pakistan, convened on July 3, 2024, on the sidelines of the 24th Meeting of the Council of Heads of State of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization in Astana. The leaders discussed enhancing trilateral cooperation and addressed key regional and global issues.

According to Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the summit underscored the growing collaboration between Turkey, Azerbaijan, and Pakistan, with discussions extending to critical issues including the situations in Gaza and Cyprus, the Kashmir conflict, and combating Islamophobia. The trilateral meeting, which builds on previous discussions at the levels of Speakers of Parliaments and Ministers of Foreign Affairs, also set the stage for future meetings of state leaders.

The three nations reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation, which they believe will not only benefit their own populations but also promote regional and global peace and stability. They emphasized the importance of dialogue in resolving conflicts while respecting the principles of sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Additionally, the leaders agreed on the significance of combating transnational threats, particularly terrorism, and committed to joint efforts to address these challenges. The discussions marked a pivotal step in fostering a collaborative approach among the three countries to tackle shared concerns and enhance their strategic partnerships.

Future meetings of the trilateral cooperation process are planned to take place in Turkey, Azerbaijan, and Pakistan, further solidifying the ties among these nations and their shared goals for stability and prosperity.
