Muzaffarabad: On the third anniversary of the martyrdom of veteran Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Gilani, Pasban-e-Hurriyat Jammu and Kashmir and the students wing of Tehreek-e-Shababul Muslimeen Jammu Kashmir held protest rallies throughout Azad Jammu and Kashmir to honor his contributions and sacrifices for the Kashmir freedom movement.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Syed Ali Gilani, who passed away on September 1, 2021, had spent the last decade of his life under house arrest at his residence in Srinagar. He was a prominent figure in the struggle for Kashmiri self-determination against Indian rule in the region.
The rally in Muzaffarabad, organized by Pasban-e-Hurriyat, was attended by a large number of participants from diverse sectors of society, including influential leaders such as Pasban-e-Hurriyat Chairman Uzair Ahmed Ghazali and other notable figures. Participants displayed banners featuring Gilani’s images and quotes, underscoring his pivotal role in the Kashmiri resistance.
Speakers at the rally praised Gilani as the foundational leader of the Kashmir freedom movement in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir. They highlighted his relentless efforts in mobilizing people for the cause and his teachings that promoted respect across different religions in the conflicted area.
The tribute emphasized Gilani’s unwavering demand for resolving the Kashmir issue in accordance with United Nations Security Council resolutions and the aspirations of the Kashmiri people. The protesters called upon the UNSC and international bodies to intervene and facilitate a resolution that aligns with the desires of the Kashmiri populace.
Simultaneously, the student wing of Tehreek-e-Shababul Muslimeen Jammu Kashmir conducted a rally at Alambardar Chowk, Muzaffarabad, led by Riaz Ahmed Awan. This event saw participation from various political, religious, and social organizations. The speakers collectively remembered Gilani for his extraordinary leadership in the Kashmir freedom movement and his moral integrity, which withstood attempts at coercion by successive Indian governments.
The speakers concluded by affirming that Syed Ali Gilani’s legacy and mission would continue to inspire future generations and the struggle would persist until complete success is achieved in the Kashmir freedom movement.
