Islamabad, The tribunals are scheduled to address and resolve all appeals concerning the acceptance or rejection of nomination papers related to the upcoming Senate elections today, with the revised candidate list to be announced tomorrow.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, these tribunals’ decisions will finalize the roster of candidates eligible for the Senate elections, scheduled for the second of next month. Following today’s rulings, candidates will have the opportunity to withdraw their nomination papers by Wednesday, setting the stage for the election process to fill 48 vacant seats in the upper house.
The electoral process in the federal capital will involve National Assembly members voting to fill one general seat and one technocrat seat, which also includes Ulema. Similarly, in each of the country’s four provincial assemblies, members will vote to elect senators for seven general seats, two seats designated for women, and two seats for technocrats, including Ulema. Additionally, one senator representing non-Muslims will be elected from both Punjab and Sindh provinces.
This significant step in the election timeline underscores the meticulous preparation and regulatory oversight integral to Pakistan’s democratic processes, aiming to ensure transparency and fairness in the election of Senate representatives.
