Tribunal Extends Ban on Jamaat-e-Islami in Jammu and Kashmir for Additional Five Years

Srinagar: The Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Tribunal confirmed the continuation of the ban on Jamaat-e-Islami of Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) for an additional five years under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA). This decision follows the original ban imposed in 2019, which was set to expire but has now been extended to maintain the prohibition.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the tribunal’s latest ruling supports the Indian Ministry of Home Affairs’ decision to prolong the ban, initially established on February 28, 2019. The extension will sustain the ban on the organization well into 2029, ensuring that the group remains unable to operate legally within the region.

The ban extension comes as part of the government’s ongoing efforts to curb organizations deemed a threat to national security and public order. The initial prohibition was introduced following concerns about the group’s activities and its potential links to unrest in the region. This decision ensures that the group’s activities remain halted under the stringent provisions of the UAPA, aiming to stabilize the region’s security situation.
