Islamabad: In a significant development, the government has decided to accelerate the transfer of ongoing Public Works Department (PWD) projects to provincial governments. This decision was reached during a high-level meeting chaired by the Minister for Planning and Development, Ahsan Iqbal.
According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the meeting concluded that the Public Sector Development Program projects, previously managed by the now-dissolved PWD, would be handed over to the provincial governments promptly to ensure that their completion faces no delays. The transfer includes projects both within the federal capital and across other provinces.
The Minister directed all provincial governments to submit, within a week, the names of the ministries to which these projects will be transferred. He emphasized that the projects are not being terminated but are merely being re-assigned to different institutions to streamline their execution.
It was further decided that to facilitate this transition, the projects would be categorized by district. A Deputy Commissioner will oversee each district, working closely with the PWD and relevant departments to finalize all necessary agreements swiftly, within four to five days.
Ahsan Iqbal also praised the government of Balochistan for being the first to complete the necessary arrangements for this transfer. He urged the other provinces to expedite their processes and provide full details within the stipulated one-week timeframe.
This strategic move aims to enhance the efficiency of project implementation by involving provincial governments more directly in the development initiatives within their respective jurisdictions.
