Training Session Illuminates Legal Professionals on Competition Law

Islamabad: The Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP), in collaboration with the Islamabad High Court Bar Association (IHCBA) and the Directorate of Legal Education, recently organized a workshop on Competition Law, aimed at enhancing the understanding of legal professionals regarding market regulation and fair competition practices.

The session was spearheaded by Mr. Saeed Ahmed Nawaz, a member of the CCP, alongside senior officials from the Commission. It offered legal practitioners an invaluable opportunity to interact directly with CCP representatives, enriching their grasp of the key principles and enforcement mechanisms underpinning Pakistan’s Competition Law.

Comprehensive presentations were delivered by Mr. Ahmed Qadir and Mr. Noman Laiq, Directors General at CCP, along with Mr. Salman Zafar, Senior Director, and Ms. Marryum Pervaiz, Director of Merger and Acquisitions. They addressed core areas of Competition Law, including prohibited agreements, the abuse of dominant position, deceptive marketing practices, mergers and acquisitions, and the criteria for granting exemptions under the law.

Participants were actively engaged throughout the session, which concluded with an interactive Q and A segment. This fostered a constructive dialogue on regulatory challenges and enforcement issues, highlighting the ongoing evolution of Pakistan’s legal and economic landscape.

Syed Wajid Ali Shah Gilani, President of IHCBA, Iftikhar Bajwa, Vice President of IHCBA, and Usama Malik, Director of the Directorate of Legal Education, expressed their gratitude to the CCP for conducting the session. They emphasized its importance as a crucial step in strengthening lawyers’ understanding of Pakistan’s dynamic economic and legal environment.
