Tragic Drownings Claim Lives of Two Youths in Chenab River, Reasi

Jammu: In separate incidents in the Reasi district, two young individuals—a girl and a boy—tragically lost their lives by drowning in the Chenab River, marking a sorrowful day for the local community.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the first incident involved 20-year-old Jameela Bano, who accidentally slipped into the river while she was cutting grass for cattle in the Surukote area. Jameela was among a group of girls who had ventured to a hill to collect green grass. Tragically, she lost her footing and fell into the water. Efforts to find her body are ongoing with a search operation in place. In a second, unrelated incident, 15-year-old Amreek Singh drowned in the Arnas area after being swept away by strong currents while bathing in the river.

These heartbreaking events highlight the dangers associated with the unpredictable currents of the Chenab River. Local authorities are cautioning residents to exercise greater caution around the riverbanks.
