Tragic Canal Accident in Haryana Claims Eight Family Members


Kaithal: In a devastating incident, eight family members, including three women and five girls, perished when their car veered off the road and fell into a canal near Mundri village in the Kaithal district of Haryana.



According to Kashmir Media Service, the only survivor of the accident, Karamjeet alias Kala, 40, from Deeg village, was behind the wheel at the time of the accident. The family was en route to Guhna village for Dasehra prayers at the Ravidas dera when the tragedy struck.



The police report details that Karamjeet, along with his wife Darshna, 38, mother Chameli Devi, 68, his brother’s wife Sukhwinder, 38, his daughters Fiza, 20, Vandana, 15, Komal, 17, and nieces Ria, 13, and Ramneet, 7, were all in the car. The car lost control, leading to its fall into the canal. Local villagers who witnessed the accident immediately rushed to help and managed to retrieve the vehicle. Although Karamjeet survived, seven of his family members were declared dead upon arrival at local hospitals, and later, Komal’s body was also recovered from the canal.



DSP Lalit Kumar of Pundri stated, “The driver was rescued, but eight other occupants of the vehicle drowned.” He also noted that Karamjeet’s brother resides abroad. The deceased have been sent for post-mortem examinations to further investigate the circumstances of the accident.
