Torrential rains in the country from 20-22 June (Mon-Wed) 

Islamabad, June 19, 2022 (PPI-OT):Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a press release informing that a strong weather system is likely to enter Upper and Central parts of the Country on Monday which will cause widespread rain-windstorms / thundershowers throughout the Country; details enclosed at Annex-A.

All concerned Federal Ministries / Departments, respective Provincial Governments, their line departments including PIDs / PDMAs / GBDMA / SDMA, District Administrations / DDMAs, Municipal Administrations and City Administration of major metropolis are advised to promptly ensure following:

a. All civic agencies / rescue services to remain alert during the advisory period to respond to any unforeseen situation.

b. Mass awareness campaign down to general masses to avoid unnecessary movement in the threatened areas especially tourist spots.

c. Mass awareness of general public about risk of hill torrents and consequent danger of washing away of vehicles in such fast flowing water channels.

d. Alerting general masses living in low-lying areas to exercise extra caution including community based alert system.

e. LEAs including Motorway / Traffic police to advice commuters traveling on roads especially tourist traffic in view of vehicle movement towards Northern Areas, where torrential rains are expected.

f. Coordinate with concerned departments (NHA, FWO and C and W) for restoration of roads in case of any blockage / obstruction / closures.

g. Billboards and hoardings are secured from effects of thunderstorms / wind.

h. Preplace necessary emergency equipment at vulnerable / strategic locations to keep the communication arteries open.

i. Availability of emergency services personnel and equipment (Rescue 1122 / Fire Brigade / Ambulance / Civil Defence) during the forecasted period.

j. Provision of POL for back-up generators at municipal pumping stations and timely pre-placement of de-watering pumps due to high-risk of urban flooding in cities.

k. Travellers / Visitors are forewarned about risks posed at landslide / flash flood vulnerable locations.

Furthermore, Local Administration / Police / Rescue Services are to guide / provide assistance to safe area in case of any emergency.

l. In case of any eventuality, twice-daily updates be shared with NDMA.
