New Delhi, in a heated debate in the Lok Sabha, the lower house of the Indian Parliament, TMC MP Saugata Ray fiercely criticized the Indian Home Minister Amit Shah over the government’s decision to abrogate Article 370, which led to the reorganization of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh into Union Territories.
According to Kashmir Media Service, centered on the Jammu and Kashmir Reservation (Amendment) Bill, 2023, and the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation (Amendment) Bill, 2023. Ray questioned the necessity of these changes in the absence of a Legislative Assembly in Jammu and Kashmir and stressed the importance of conducting elections in the region. He accused the BJP government of abrogating Article 370 merely to fulfill its political promise of “Ek Pradhan, Ek Nishan, Ek Vidhan” (One Prime Minister, one flag, and one Constitution).
In response to Ray’s criticism, Home Minister Amit Shah defended the government’s decision, reiterating that the abrogation of Article 370 was aimed at establishing “One Prime Minister, One Flag, One Constitution” throughout India. The exchange highlighted the ongoing political tensions and differing viewpoints regarding the government’s policies in Jammu and Kashmir.
The discussion of these two bills in the Lok Sabha underscores the continued debate and controversy surrounding the government’s actions in Jammu and Kashmir.
