TINSUKIA, A heinous act of violence occurred in Tinsukia, Assam, where Maulana Tehzeeb Islam, a 55-year-old Imam, was brutally stabbed to death inside a mosque. The incident took place during the early hours of Sunday.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the assailant, 42-year-old Mohammad Ibrahim Ahmed, entered the mosque with a machete during Sunday morning prayers and attacked the Imam, causing fatal injuries. The attacker initially fled the scene, leaving behind the weapon, only to return later, pretending to be a bystander.
Law enforcement officials acted swiftly to arrest Ahmed, who was charged under section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code after confessing to the crime. The Tinsukia district’s additional superintendent of police mentioned ongoing interrogations, hinting at potential additional charges.
Prior to the attack, witnesses reported a verbal confrontation between the Imam and the accused, during which Ahmed allegedly threatened Maulana Tehzeeb Islam. Maulana Tehzeeb Islam, originally from Bihar’s Purnia district, served as an Imam in Makum Kolabari area’s mosque in Tinsukia.
