Islamabad, August 26, 2021 (PPI-OT):Senator Dr. Sania Nishtar, SAPM on Social Protection and Poverty Alleviation has issued an official statement on the completion of three years of government and Ehsaas. Under the umbrella of Ehsaas, National Ehsaas survey has been completed after a lag of 10 years, despite COVID-19 pandemic. Budget for social protection has been doubled compared to any past government’s budget and 100% budget utilized over the last 3 years. 15 million families (100 million people) have been supported during COVID-19.

This is half the country’s population. Ehsaas emergency Cash was the third largest program globally and the fastest the world over (World Bank) 12 million families will get cash grants this year, 30% of the country’s population. Children in all classes, in every district, of all Ehsaas eligible families are eligible for Ehsaas education stipends. 50 Ehsaas Nashonuma centres have been opened to address stunting. Program being upscale nationwide. 142,000 Ehsaas undergraduate scholarships granted in 2 years. The largest scholarship program ever run in the country.

One Window Ehsaas is being upscale nationwide. 20 other Ehsaas programs are also running, including Ehsaas Langars, Ehsaas Panahgahs and Ehsaas Koye Bhooka Na Soye. Phase 1 of “Ehsaas Building and Rebuilding Institutions Initiatives” is complete, the deepest reform ever carried out in the history of the country. Ehsaas regarded by the World Bank as a program from which other countries can learn. Ehsaas has shifted the governance paradigm in the country from, as stated by Sir Michael Barber, “Shift from politics of patronage to politics of performance”.
