Srinagar, February 24, 2023 (PPI-OT):In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, thousands of devotees thronged Dargah Hazratbal in Srinagar, today, to participate in congregational prayers on Friday following Shab-e-Meraaj or the night of ascent. The faithful flocked the shrine situated on the banks of Dal Lake to have glimpse of the holy relic or Moi-e-Muqaddas, which is widely believed to be the hair strand of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him). Amid recitation of Quranic verses, the devotees were seen beseeching with moist eyes for the divine blessing.

Similar congregations were held at other major shrines and mosques in the Kashmir Valley including Asar Sharif Shahr-e-Kalash Pora, Asar Sharif Jenab Sahab Soura, Lal Bazar, Yaqoob Sahab Sonwar in Srinagar and at Makhama Beerwah in central Badgam district. Shab-e-Meraj or night of ascent is observed on 27th of Islamic month of Rajab every year.

Prayers were held at local mosques where preachers delivered lecture on the teachings of Holy Prophet (PBUH). Reports of congregational gatherings were also received from north and south Kashmir including Bandipora, Baramulla Kupwara, and Shopian, Pulwama, Kulgam and Islamabad districts. But a major gathering including men, women and children, was seen at Dargah Hazratbal where the devotees offered Fajr and Friday congregational prayers. Elaborate arrangements were put in place by the Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board for smooth gathering of devotees at Dargah Hazratbal.
