Thousands Protest Against Waqf Amendment Bill in Bihar

Patna: Thousands of protestors gathered in Patna, Bihar, to demonstrate against the Waqf (Amendment) Bill 2024, an event organized by the All-India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB). The demonstration saw participation from leaders across the political and social spectrum, highlighting widespread concern over the proposed legislation.

Notable figures such as veteran socialist leader and former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, Azad Samaj Party President Chandrashekhar Azad, and Jan Suraaj Party founder Prashant Kishor were among the prominent speakers at the protest. Lawmakers from IUML and SP, including ET Muhammed Basheer MP and Mohibbullah Nadvi MP, also lent their voices to the cause.

The speakers criticized the Modi government’s approach, accusing it of infringing on the constitutional rights of religious institutions. They described the proposed Waqf (Amendment) Bill as anti-minority and discriminatory, urging citizens to hold their elected representatives accountable for supporting such measures.

Tejashwi Yadav, Leader of Opposition in the Bihar Assembly, addressed the protestors, reaffirming the commitment of his party, RJD, and its leader, Lalu Yadav, to the cause. He emphasized their opposition to what they view as an unconstitutional bill, both in the Parliament and state legislative bodies.

The protest was spearheaded by Muslim leaders from various organizations, underscoring the collective opposition to the bill from the minority community.
