Lahore, June 23, 2023 (PPI-OT): A meeting regarding prison reforms was held in the chief minister’s office under the chairmanship of caretaker chief minister Punjab Mohsin Naqvi. It was decided in the meeting that the punishment of the prisoners receiving technical education will also be reduced and the period of reduction in the punishment will be increased from 2 months to 3 months while the reduction in the punishment can be applied twice a year. In the meeting, it was decided to improve the facilities in the waiting rooms for the visitors. Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi directed that the program of improving the facilities in the waiting rooms of 8 prisons should be completed soon and the facilities in the waiting rooms should also be improved in other prisons. The meeting was informed that the number of PCOs has been increased in the jails and video call and international call facility has also been provided for the prisoners.
The management of prison hospitals is being handed over to the Health Department and the barracks have been provided with LED TV facility along with cable. Jail containment in the meeting A lot has been done to eliminate the outdated system. The proposal to open a physical container or a large store chain or utility store in each jail was examined. Caretaker Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi directed that air coolers should be installed in all barracks and warehouses. In the meeting, it was decided to give the superintendent of jails the authority to release a prisoner on parole on the death of a loved one. Adviser to Prime Minister Ahad Cheema attended the meeting through video link on special invitation. Ahad Cheema gave suggestions regarding the provision of basic facilities to the prisoners in the jails and the reforms.
