Islamabad, January 05, 2023 (PPI-OT):Speaker National Assembly Raja Pervaiz Ashraf and Acting Speaker Zahid Akram Durrani have said that the right to self-determination is the fundamental right of every individual. Promises and obligations must be fulfilled.
He said that Pakistan pays tribute to the peaceful movement of the Kashmiri people for their right to self-determination and will continue to support the struggle of the Kashmiri people to achieve their right to self-determination in accordance with the resolutions of the United Nations Security Council. He expressed these views on the occasion of Kashmir’s Right to Self-Determination Day, which is celebrated on January 5 every year.
The Speaker said that today is a day to remind the international community of its commitments regarding Kashmir. He said that on January 5, 1949, the United Nations Commission on India and Pakistan (UNCIP) passed a resolution guaranteeing the holding of a free and fair referendum to the people of Jammu and Kashmir to exercise their right to self-determination.
Gives the speaker said that the United Nations should keep its promise made 73 years ago. He said that the right to self-determination is the basic right of every individual, denying this right is actually against international conventions for the protection and promotion of human rights. There is also denial. India is the biggest opponent of this basic human right. He said that the international community, United Nations and human rights organizations have condemned the atrocities committed by India in Occupied Kashmir.
He said that Kashmiri people are being punished collectively by the occupying Indian forces and the region has been made the largest military zone in the world. India is changing the demographic structure of the occupied territory in violation of international laws and the Fourth Geneva Convention.
He said that Pakistan will continue to support the efforts of the people of Occupied Jammu and Kashmir to achieve their right to self-determination in accordance with the resolutions of the United Nations Security Council. On this occasion, Acting Speaker Zahid Akram Durrani said that today reminds us of the promises of the United Nations under which the United Nations on January 5, 1949 gave the right to self-determination to the Kashmiris.
He said that the right of Kashmiris to self-determination is their democratic right and Pakistan fully supports this position of Kashmiris. He expressed his determination that the struggle will continue till the Kashmiris get their right to self-determination and Pakistan will continue to support the Kashmiri people on this issue on every platform.
