Islamabad, February 02, 2022 (PPI-OT):The meeting of the Standing Committee on Railways held today under the Chairmanship of Mr. Muhammad Mueen Wattoo, MNA, in Committee Room of Ministry of Railways, D Block Pak Secretariat, Islamabad to discuss the agenda items issued vide Secretariat Notice of the meeting dated 28 January, 2022.
The Committee showed its reservation about non implementation of its recommendation regarding vacation of Railways land through negotiation, perusing the court cases vigorously and through anti-encroachment campaigns but the matter is still wondering in the file and no fruitful output in this regard.
Many members of the Committee have view that the delay in implementation of the recommendations of the Committee would be resulted day to day financial loss to the Railways. The report of Ministry of Railways on the Starred question of the Ms. Asma Qadeer, MNA was discussed and the mover has shown her satisfaction on the said report and Committee approved the same for its onward destination.
The Committee was briefed about the PSDP for the year 2022-23 by the Ministry of Railways and approved the projects of an Rs.46.2 billion having the on-going projects of Rs 37.750 Billion and 18.450 for new projects.
Divisional Superintendent, Pakistan Railways, Lahore informed the Committee the condition of Railways track in his jurisdiction was laid many years ago and the regular maintenance is continued throughout the years from the maintenance funds. He further, informed that the condition of the track would be improved up to the mark after the execution of the ML-I project.
As regard the incident of Tezgam Express, Railways promised that the compensation to those victims who were left due to shortage of legal documents, their case will be processed again for payment to them through insurance company and will be resolved soon within February, 2022 as stated by the Federal Minister for Railways also. However, Railways is unable to provide any compensation from its own funds as the summary was not approved by the Prime Minister of Pakistan.
The Committee was informed that CEO is going to be retired in couple of days. The Committee appreciated. The services of Mr. Nisar Memon, CEO Railways Headquarters, Lahore being willing worker having good conduct and submissive personality.
Minister for Railways attended the meeting and requested the cooperation of the Standing Committee for betterment in Railways. He also seeking the help of the Committee especially in execution of PSDP Projects of the Railways and ML-1 Project. The Chairman and the Committee Members appreciated the Minister and assure their best cooperation for improvement in the Railways. The Committee also suggested that the recommendations of the Committee be implemented promptly.
Minister for Railways assured the Committee that he has taken many steps in the light of the
Recommendations of the Committee and improvement in the Railways would be seen soon. The Committee constituted the Sub-Committee under the Convener ship of Ch. Hamid Hameed, MNA with previous TORs and composition.
Besides the Hon. Minister for Railways, the meeting was attended by Mr. Bashir Khan, Sheikh Rashid Shafique, Mr. Tahir Iqbal, Mr. Aftab Jehangir, Ms. Nusrat Wahid, Engr. Sabir Hussain Kaim Khani, Mr. Ali Pervaiz, Mr. Muhammad Khan Daha, Pir Syed Fazal Ali Shah Jillani, Mr. Ramesh Lal, MNAS /Members and Ms. Asma Qadeer, MNA/Mover whereas Mr. Amjad Ali Khan, MNA attended the meeting on online video call. The senior officers of Ministry of Railways were also present in the meeting.
