Thar Coal Board Approves Tariff Decisions, Reviews Rail and Grid Connectivity

KARACHI: The Thar Coal and Energy Board (TCEB), under the leadership of Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, has made significant progress in advancing Pakistan’s indigenous energy sector. The board’s 30th meeting focused on developments in mining expansion, infrastructure connectivity, tariff rationalization, and new investment initiatives, all aimed at transforming the Thar Coalfield into a national energy and industrial hub.

According to Chief Minister Sindh, the meeting was attended by key federal and provincial officials, including Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal and Power Minister Awais Leghari. The board reviewed ongoing projects and approved tariff-related matters, with a focus on fast-tracking indigenous energy development, expanding coal-based industrialization, and reducing reliance on imported fuels. The meeting also highlighted the strategic importance of Thar coal for Pakistan’s energy security and economic stability.

Progress on the Thar Railway Connectivity Project and grid connectivity initiatives was discussed, with key milestones achieved in procurement and construction. The board also considered new investment proposals, emphasizing the importance of affordable indigenous energy to strengthen Pakistan’s energy sovereignty and reduce import dependence.
