Mangaluru: Tensions flared in Mangaluru, Karnataka, following a confrontation between Hindu and Muslim communities over the celebration of the Eid Milad festival. Members of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) blocked a traditional Muslim procession in Nagamangala, Mandya district, leading to increased communal tensions and police involvement.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the local authorities withdrew permission for the Muslim community to hold their customary Eid Milad-un-Nabi procession along B C Road. This decision came after VHP leader Sharan Pumpwell advocated for restrictions on the rally, which commemorates the birth of the Prophet Muhammad.
The conflict intensified when police detained Mohammad Sharif, a prominent Muslim leader, along with several of his associates. They were charged, further exacerbating the unrest among community members. The incident has raised serious concerns about religious freedom and the potential for further communal violence in the area.
The situation in Mangaluru remains tense, with both communities on high alert and authorities striving to maintain peace and prevent any escalation of violence.
