Telangana Faces Communal Unrest After Attacks on BRS Rally and Muslims

Hyderabad, Tensions have surged in Telangana following violent incidents involving a Hindu group’s attacks on an election rally led by Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader Kalvakuntla Taraka Rama Rao and targeted assaults on Muslims in the state.

According to Kashmir Media Service, the unrest began when members of the Hindu group, self-identified as followers of the deity Hanuman, assaulted a Muslim journalist reporting on the BRS event in Bhainsa, Nirmal District. The attacks quickly escalated into broader confrontations involving stone-pelting and the exchange of communal slogans, severely straining the region’s social fabric.

The initial clash occurred at a BRS gathering at Maulana Azad Chowk, where the Hindu group’s protests devolved into violent actions. Subsequent attacks targeted KTR’s convoy, which was pelted with stones and tomatoes while chants like ‘Jai Sri Ram’ and ‘Bharat Mata ki Jai’ resonated in the air, signaling deep-seated communal tensions.

Additionally, in a related incident, Sheikh Wajid Qureshi, a local from the Qureshi community, suffered a brutal assault near Gandhiganj. In response to these events, law enforcement intensified their presence, imposed temporary business closures, and worked alongside the Muslim community to quell further disturbances and restore order.
