Srinagar: Tehreek-e-Wahdat-e-Islami (TWI) marked the first death anniversary of its leader and All Parties Hurriyat Conference patron-in-chief, Nisar Hussain Rathar, with a prayer meeting in Srinagar, in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir. Rathar, remembered for his lifelong commitment to the Kashmiri freedom movement, was honored by party leaders, members, and a large contingent of supporters.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the commemorative event took place at Rathar’s residence in the Bemina area of Srinagar, drawing a significant number of attendees who paid their respects and remembered his contributions. Speakers at the meeting highlighted Rathar’s unwavering dedication to the cause of Kashmiri independence, noting his role as a selfless, sincere, and honest leader who remained active against Indian rule until his last breath.
The gathering also reflected on Rathar’s early activism, which began during his student days and led to multiple imprisonments, yet never deterred his resolve. His enduring struggle and significant sacrifices were prominently acknowledged by those present. At the meeting’s conclusion, prayers were offered for Rathar’s soul and for the ongoing struggle for Kashmir’s liberation from Indian governance.
Nisar Hussain Rathar, who suffered from diabetes, passed away on August 22, 2023, leaving behind a legacy of resistance and leadership in the Kashmiri freedom movement.
