LAHORE: Punjab Information Minister Uzma Bukhari has revealed that an estimated 81 crore rupees were expended on the rally organized by Tehreek Anatharah to Islamabad.
According to Chief Minister of Punjab, Bukhari voiced her concerns during a media interaction at the Lahore High Court, emphasizing the financial implications of the rally. She criticized the allocation of 4.4 lakh rupees to each Member of Provincial Assembly (MPA) and Member of National Assembly (MNA) for a protest scheduled on November 24. She questioned whether any legal body would inquire about the origins of the money used for these sit-ins and processions.
Bukhari also addressed a current legal case involving fake video dissemination, noting that the Lahore High Court had denied bail to one individual, while another, a welder from Gujarat, was granted bail. The welder allegedly created three fake accounts to distribute the video, admitting to uploading it during interrogation. Bukhari linked the individuals involved to the propaganda cell of Tehreek-e-Insaf.
The minister expressed her hope for justice and called for the regularization of social media and capacity building of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in Pakistan. She also criticized the Peshawar High Court for allegedly providing aid to terrorist suspects and lamented the diversion of funds intended for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s welfare towards protests.
