Tehran Celebrates Iqbal Day with Cultural Events and Tributes

Tehran: The Embassy of Pakistan in Tehran commemorated the 148th birth anniversary of Dr. Allama Muhammad Iqbal, known in Iran as Iqbal Lahori, with a series of events held in collaboration with the University of Tehran’s Department of Urdu and the Hoze Honari, Tehran’s Art Council. Ambassador Muhammad Mudassir Tipu emphasized Iqbal’s influence on global cultures and his special reverence in Iran.

Ambassador Tipu highlighted Iqbal’s universal appeal, noting that Iranian leaders have historically honored him by visiting his mausoleum in Pakistan. He stated that Iqbal’s themes of selfhood, symbolized by the concept of Khudi, and his vision for the Renaissance of the Muslim Ummah remain relevant today.

The embassy declared 2027 as the “Year of Iqbal,” intending to organize events to promote his teachings. The Hoze Honari has been invited to participate in these forthcoming programs.

At a separate event at the University of Tehran’s Urdu Department, Dr. Janullah Karimi and other faculty members joined Pakistani embassy officials and students in a tribute to Iqbal. Ismat Hasan, Deputy Head of Mission, spoke about Iqbal’s universal and metaphysical thoughts, emphasizing their importance in maintaining cultural identity in a globalized world.

Students honored Iqbal by reciting his poetry, and the event was attended by scholars, students, and members of the Pakistani community.
