Islamabad, September 01, 2021 (PPI-OT):Finance Minister Shaukat Tarin has stressed the need for accurate forecasting to ensure smooth supply of basic items at affordable prices across the country. He expressed these views at a meeting with Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Food Security, Jamshed Cheema in Islamabad, in which price control strategy for essential commodities was discussed.
The Finance Minister emphasized that provincial governments should take proactive measures in compliance with directives of the Prime Minister, to bring price stability in items of daily use. After detailed deliberations, it was decided that the Special Assistant on Food Security will hold consultations with all relevant stakeholders and chalk out a comprehensive plan to examine the entire food chain of fifteen basic commodities from farm to retail market. He will then identify the gaps which need to be filled, through accurate forecasting and proactive decision making to ensure availability of essential items at fair prices.
