Tarigami Raises Alarm Over Ecological Impact of Road to Amarnath Cave

Srinagar, The construction of a road leading to the sacred Amarnath cave has drawn severe warnings from Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami, the former legislator and CPI (M) leader, regarding the environmental ramifications of such development in the ecologically sensitive region of the Islamabad district in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Tarigami expressed concerns through a social media post on the platform X, pointing out the road’s potential to disrupt the local ecology and the wider implications for the region’s biodiversity, including its wildlife and forests.

He highlighted that the road, which traverses glaciers and forested areas, was established without the necessary environmental clearances. Tarigami emphasized the urgency for Indian government agencies to consult with local stakeholders and adhere to environmental regulations to ensure the sustainability of developments in the Himalayan Region.

The critique from Tarigami comes as the Amarnath Yatra, a pilgrimage attracting millions, faces increasing environmental challenges due to infrastructure projects like the road construction, which may endanger the region’s fragile ecosystems.
