Tangier, In a significant cultural milestone, Tangier has been chosen as the Global Host City for the 2024 International Jazz Day. This city, renowned for its vibrant music scene and historical jazz connections, will host a series of events from April 27 to 30, celebrating its rich musical heritage and fostering global cultural exchange.
According to United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, the festivities in Tangier will be presented in partnership with the Ministry of Culture of Morocco and the city itself. The four-day celebration will not only pay tribute to the city’s jazz legacy but also spotlight its artistic exchanges with Europe and Africa. Educational initiatives, discussions on jazz history, and a special focus on Morocco’s Gnawa music will underscore the city’s cultural narrative.
Highlighting the event will be the All-Star Global Concert at Tangier’s new Palace of Arts and Culture, slated for live broadcast to a global audience. This concert will feature illustrious artists including Herbie Hancock and John Beasley, alongside a diverse lineup of international talent. The event is poised to underscore Tangier’s pivotal role at the cultural crossroads of Europe and Africa, showcasing its enduring influence on the global jazz landscape.
