Chennai, MH Jawahirullah, President of the Manithaneya Makkal Katchi (MMK) and a member of the Legislative Assembly, has accused the National Investigation Agency (NIA) of inciting unnecessary tension through its extensive searches in Tamil Nadu as the Lok Sabha elections approach.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Jawahirullah expressed his concerns in the Assembly regarding the NIA’s recent activities, including the arrests of certain individuals, which he deemed excessive and alarming.
The MLA called for a halt to the searches by the NIA, pointing to the agency’s notably low conviction rate of about 1% in these cases. He also addressed the difficulties minorities face, particularly with regards to restrictions on constructing mosques, and called on the Tamil Nadu government to alleviate these restrictions.
