Syed Ali Gilani remembered in Islamabad on his 2nd martyrdom anniversary

Islamabad, September 01, 2023 (PPI-OT): The speakers at a seminar in Islamabad, today, remembered the veteran Kashmiri Hurriyat leader, Syed Ali Gilani, on his second martyrdom anniversary. Syed Ali Gilani breathed his last at his Hyderpora residence in Srinagar on September 01 in 2021 where he had been kept under house arrest by the Indian authorities for over a decade.

The seminar was jointly organized by “Friends of Kashmir” and Kashmir Media Service in collaboration with Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Commission and Youth Council of Pakistan to pay tributes to the veteran leader. Senators, All Parties Hurriyat Conference and Azad Jammu and Kashmir leadership participated in the seminar. The speakers said that Syed Ali Gilani was an embodiment of honesty, unwavering resoluteness, struggle and vision in the story of the Kashmir freedom movement. They said the veteran leader not only presented the cause of Kashmir with great clarity but also united all the Kashmiris for that noble cause. The life and struggle of this great leader will serve as a beacon light and will continue to guide Kashmir’s future generations, they added.

The speakers said Syed Ali Gilani was the face of Kashmir resistance movement who challenged India’s illegal occupation over Jammu and Kashmir and spearheaded the struggle for right to self-determination. They said that the veteran leader was a staunch opponent of Indian illegal occupation of Jammu and Kashmir and his stance on the Kashmir dispute invited the wrath of the Indian authorities. They said that Syed Ali Gilani spent more than 13 years in Indian jails and he was first imprisoned in 1962 and was even booked under sedition charges for challenging India’s illegal occupation over Jammu and Kashmir.

The speakers said the struggle of Shaheed Gilani will be written in golden letters in the history of Jammu and Kashmir and reiterated the Kashmiris’ resolve to continue his mission till it reached its logical conclusion.
